Genealogy Blogs & Wikis
Wikis and Blogs do have a place in genealogy research. There is a great deal of information to be learned from Wikis as the information is usually posted by people who have direct knowledge of a subject. The reason Wikis should not be considered a primary source is the same reason we should not take our genealogy from other people's trees and call it our own. The proof of what is put down is not always verifiable with a Wiki. The Wiki can give us a good starting point, or a focus point for our own research. Blogs are also a good tool for genealogy. They can be used to keep track of your own research, where you have searched for individuals on your tree, and what you have found to date for that particular person or surname. With blogs you can also see the steps others have taken getting their information. Some blogs teach lessons on genealogy and other topics related to genealogy. Check out the links to blogs and wikis and if you would like to add your blog or know of a wiki we have not listed here, please feel free to post message at California Genealogy Club, and I will add them to our website.
