Genetic Genealogy

As we move into the future so does the art of genealogy. The stuff of science fiction a few decades ago is now reality and in many cases affordable. There are, of course, some limits to what we can learn from genetic genealogy. It is, for example, possible to tell if you are a cousin to Jesse James, or many other famous people, because there are documented descendants from them that you can be matched against, but often the genetic donor has to be male or a male relative (father, brother, or nephew). Genetics pass down differently from your father's and mother’s side of the family. There is less information from the mother's mitocondrial DNA than the father's nuclear DNA. All of these sites offer genetic genealogy of some sort, and none of them offer free testing. I do not know how reliable any of these sites are as I have never done this sort of genetic testing. You will want to read very carefully before you invest your money in any of them. Even if you do nothing but view these sites they will teach you many interesting things about the new world of genealogy and the doors that will be opening soon for everyone. If you have used one of these services or have had some experience with them we would love to have you share your experience with the other members.
